Since 2015 we have regularly evaluated our church health with the aid of Natural Church Development (NCD). This has enabled us to determine both our strengths and weaknesses, thus helping us to focus our energies to best effect. We have also invested in developing leaders through attending such events as the Global Leadership Summit (GLS) and the CCVT Summit.
In 2018 a new Church Governance Framework was developed and adopted by the church.
Our vision for Red Cliffs Church of Christ is:
“To see God’s hope transform our communities, one story at a time.”
Our desire is to be a church that is known by, and has an impact on not only our own church family, but also our local community and the communities we interact with beyond, by demonstrating that we value:
Participation over performance
Contributors over consumers
Relevance over ritual
Teamwork over titles
Others over ourselves
This has been the motivation behind engaging with our local community e.g. having our own stall at the Red Cliffs market, being involved in the Red Cliffs Community carols, and running children’s holiday programs.
We want people to see that God’s love is very real, active and relevant to their lives in today’s world. We take seriously Jesus’ words in Matt 5:14 – 16 “You are the light of the world – like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your Heavenly Father.
Red Cliffs Church of Christ is a small, but active, regional church located in the Mallee, 530km NW of Melbourne and 16km south of Mildura.
The church began in 1923 following the establishment of Red Cliffs as a post WWI soldier settlement in 1921. The initial members were mostly successful land applicants, who grew sultanas, the dominant local horticultural industry at that time. Over the years our members’ occupations have gradually changed. Today employees, small business owners and retirees have replaced the horticulturalists.
MINISTER: NAOMI THORNE
Hi and welcome,
My name is Naomi Thorne and I’ve had the privilege of being a Minister at Red Cliffs Church of Christ since the beginning of 2015.
I am married to Bruce and we have two adult children. We have been in the area for a few years and have grown to enjoy all that Sunraysia offers.
I love being the Minister of this Church, where together we’re shaped by the Scriptures, believing very much in prayer, journeying together in discipleship, and seeing lives transformed by Jesus.
We love to help people feel they belong, and welcome all ages to share in community. Our sense of belonging together is enriched through our Life Groups, where we get to study God’s word and really get to know people well as we do life with one another and pray for one another. We value each person’s story, and Life Groups offer a great opportunity to be heard and valued.
We enjoy running holiday programs for primary age children. The leaders have the joy of teaching the children that God loves them, and we do this through stories, games, crafts, and many other fun activities. We also love to connect with their families and have a lovely rapport with them. Our heart is to offer practical support for families we connect with, so we regularly offer a marriage course for couples, and desire to offer resources and tools for all people to help them in their life’s journey.
We are also a Church that isn’t frightened of tough topics, and we want to be a positive voice in our community, reflecting what the Bible says on contemporary matters.
Our Church is not run by the Minister, as everyone is given the opportunity to get involved. We are all part of the body of Christ, desiring to use the gifts that Christ has given us. Here at Red Cliffs Church of Christ, everyone matters, and we are engaged together in missions locally, as well as nationally and internationally. We support financially, prayerfully, and practically to see a difference in people’s lives and changes to their circumstances.
While being an active ‘doing’ Church we also create moments for people to simply ‘be’, to take time out to hear what God wants of us, and not get stuck on the proverbial "hamster wheel".
Personally, I like to have fun and enjoy going out for coffee – not so much for the coffee, but to connect with people. I enjoy the opportunity to connect with others, encouraging journeys of transformation one life at a time, regardless of people’s backgrounds, or whether they’re a part of this church. Journeying with others helps me grow too!
Thanks for visiting our website. We would love to meet you, please pop in and visit us or give me a call.
